Worth the Wait: Chris’s Bastion Road Disc

Some bikes come together quickly. Others take a little longer—not because anything went wrong, but because life has its own timing.

Chris’s Bastion Road Disc is one of those bikes.

This is a project we had been looking forward to completing for more than three years. The bike was ready. We were ready. But life happens, priorities shift, and sometimes a dream bike has to wait until the moment is right.

For Chris, that moment finally arrived in the summer of 2026.

A Rider Who Knows Custom

Chris is no stranger to custom bicycles. His collection already includes a Parlee Z-Zero XD, a FiftyOne Road, and a Seven. And for good reason.

Built more like the rugby player he once was than the stereotypical cyclist, Chris puts serious power through a bicycle. Off-the-shelf geometry isn't always the ideal solution, and neither are frames designed primarily around being as light or as aerodynamic as possible.

For this bike, Chris wanted something different.

He wanted a bike that would feel substantial and composed under power without sacrificing the responsiveness and refinement of a great road bike. He wanted a complete package—performance, fit, craftsmanship, and aesthetics—and, just as importantly, something that wouldn't feel like a variation of the custom bikes he already owned.

When we introduced him to Bastion, everything clicked.

From Melbourne to Darien

The project began shortly after our visit to the Bastion factory in Melbourne, Australia.

While touring the facility, we found ourselves in the paint booth looking at a finish the team called “Porsche Green.” It immediately caught our attention.

There are moments in a custom build when a decision doesn't require much deliberation. We made a quick video call to Chris, showed him the color, and that was it.

Porsche Green it would be.

The choice couldn't have suited him better. As the owner of a leading construction company "Pollack + Partners" in Greenwich, Connecticut, Chris has a trained eye for proportion, lines, materials, and details. Those sensibilities became part of the bike itself, with each decision contributing to the whole rather than competing for attention.

The Details That Make It His

One of the things that makes a Bastion so special is the opportunity for personalization within its 3D-printed titanium components.

We wanted to take advantage of that.

On the right dropout, Bastion incorporated the “P” logo from Chris’s company. On the left, the number 22—his number from his days as a division 1 lacrosse player in college.

They're small details, but that's exactly the point.

They don't shout for attention. They're meaningful because they belong to Chris. Someone else could order a Bastion in the same color, but they couldn't order this bike.

For the final build, we chose ENVE 4.5 Pro wheels. Their silver spokes and hubs play beautifully against the highly polished titanium lugs, bringing another layer of contrast to the deep green finish. Modern carbon, polished titanium, and carefully chosen components all come together without any one element overwhelming the others.

And after more than three years of anticipation, the finished bicycle feels remarkably cohesive—as though it couldn't have ended up any other way.

Worth the Wait

At Signature Cycles, custom has never simply meant choosing a frame size, components, and paint.

The best custom bikes begin with the rider: how they are built, how they ride, what they value, where they've been, and what they want from the miles ahead.

Chris’s Bastion carries all of that with it—from his rugby number to his professional identity, from a chance discovery in a Melbourne paint booth to a bicycle designed around the power and proportions of the person who will actually ride it.

They say good things come to those who wait.

After three years, one trip to Melbourne, one very quick decision about Porsche Green, and countless details coming together, we think this one was worth every minute.

Welcome home, Chris’s Bastion.

Now it’s time to ride.
