Marvin’s Colnago V3Rs

This week we're serving up a delicious all-Italian feast of high-end equipment. Marvin's Colnago V3Rs is a race bike dripping with modern style, fully built with a 12-speed Campagnolo Super Record EPS groupset and rolling on Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO 45 wheels.

Colnago is one of road cycling’s most legendary brands. Before he founded the company in his own name, Ernesto Colnago was Eddy Merckx’s framebuilder and mechanic at the Molteni team. A couple decades later Colnago made the first carbon bike to win Paris-Roubaix on the savage cobbles of the ‘Queen of Classics’. And now Colnago is winning everything in sight under the greatest cyclist in the world, Tadej Pogačar.

The Colnago V3Rs is a monocoque construction featuring truncated tube shapes for superior aerodynamics. It’s also very light, with a claimed frame weight of 790g for a size 50. This is a superbike with very real climbing capability – fast both on the hills and on the flat. It can clear tires up to 30mm, which makes it an extremely versatile road bike that can be ridden comfortably on rough pavement, despite the high frame stiffness.

What really sets this particular V3Rs apart is the cockpit. We used a Colnago CC.01 one-piece integrated handlebar that was designed for the Colnago C68, and it’s a significant upgrade from the SR9 stem and handlebar that were originally paired with this frameset. Doing this allowed us to use an aerodynamic bar with reduced weight for a higher performance set-up.

The beautiful nude carbon Campagnolo Super Record chainset has 52/36 chainrings paired to an 11-32 tooth cassette. These are perfect ratios for a strong rider who likes to push big gears and descend fast. Running the gorgeous Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO wheels in the 45mm rim depth that weigh just 1,325g, this rig is going to fly up the hills as impressively as it descends. The rims are made by hand in Italy and feature a glossy raw carbon finish that really shines in the sun – and of course matches the Super Record components. With a wide 23mm internal width, they’re ideal for bigger tires that roll fast and absorb vibration so that Marvin could take it right to the bike’s 30mm limit.
