Zach fell in love with Australian brand Bastion a few years back when we delivered his first Bastion Supperlegera. Things don’t always work out perfectly the first time: just ask the Ferrari F1 team and they’ll tell you one of two things about high engineering and performance not always going as planned.
So we got the opportunity to go back to the drawing board and collaborate with Bastion on a second dream bike for Zach. We took this project to the next level by aiming for the ArchAngel, an ultra-exclusive model limited to 88 pieces worldwide. Not only is every lug on the bike 3D printed, but the lug is also left raw with only the carved angel wings highly polished, creating a rare and unique beauty. Alongside the blend of tech and craftsmanship behind the lugs, the carbon tubes are filament wound and designed specifically for Zach's ride qualities: he is a fast and powerful rider who wants his frame to respond to his performance.
The geometry of the bike is also something we worked on closely with Bastion in order to optimize Zach's performance. As a relatively new rider, Zach has evolved tremendously since his original Bastion build, and this new ArchAngel was updated in line with his increasing strengths and abilities.
The unique design of the frame and lugs also allowed us to get creative with the paint job. Zach already has a couple of all-black dream bikes and he wanted to play with the colors a bit more here, so we ended up going with a two-tone blue bike. The lugs are finished with a light cerakote blue while the carbon tubes have a beautiful matte finish that’s tinted blue. Even the titanium pulleys got a light blue cerakote treatment, adding to the attention to intricate detail. Not only that – the proprietary titanium crankset with the SRM powermeter was also painted to match.
After riding the bike hard for a few months now, it’s great to hear Zach referring to his ArchAngel as "the best bike I have ever ridden". A lot of work and dedication went into this project and we are very thankful to Zach for trusting us and allowing us to work on yet another dream bike. This one is something really special.
