THOMSON BIKE TOURS GIRONA ITINERARY

Join us this April as we head to Girona for 7 days of glorious riding. This is our second trip with cycling holiday experts Thomson Bike Tours, and our second visit to the Catalan cycling capital.

Take our word for it, it's one of the most beautiful parts of the world and must've been built by a cyclist!

Day 1

Your trip starts at Barcelona Airport where our staff will meet you before the transfer to your hotel in Girona.

After lunch, orientation meeting and bike build-up, you’ll head out for your first ride to one of Girona's real icons…the Els Angels climb. Smooth turns and a true gentle elevation gain are the ingredients of this classic climb finishing at the Els Angels Sanctuary.

Day 2

If Els Angels is a true classic…each big hit needs an adorable match…and so are the following climbs and their descents…Santa Pellaia, Coll de la Ganga and Romanyà de La Selva…all of them long time favourites of the local riders.

Ask the locals and hundreds will point at Santa Pellaia as one of the prettiest winding roads a cyclists can ride on, promised. We personally can’t wait to ride it once more!

Day 3

And talking about winding roads…Day 3 may have one of the best known European winding roads… its section from St. Feliu de Guixols to Tossa de Mar must be the most famous road in Girona…incredible flowy turns with jawdropping views to the Mediterranean are the reason behind its fame.

Hold on to your bars because it's easy to get distracted with so much beauty.

Day 4

This trip is intentionally not hitting the big mountains…but on Day 4 we will go inland…searching for the incredible Girona roads that all the pro cyclists that live here ride on a daily basis.

We'll remain in the outskirts of the El Montseny mountain range, right at the very core of the Catalonia region which is why it is such a popular training scenario for pro riders coming from all over the region.

Day 5

The first half of the ride flows by the outskirts of El Montseny and leads us to the spectacular Sau reservoir. From here we take a true hidden gem…the tiny climb up to the town of Rupit, a very ancient village known as one of the most beautiful towns in Catalonia. Rupit is the perfect mountain town taken straight out of a postcard.

From Rupit we take the high road through incredible rock formations and cliffs…a very protected area…so protected that our hotel for the night had to be perfectly built to integrate into the surrounding nature. A truly amazing architectural exercise…once inside you will see why it's straight out of a 007 movie set!

Day 6

Everybody is talking about gravel bikes and rides…right?...so let’s do it properly…let’s make it so enjoyable that you will remember this ride forever. Today we say goodbye to our road bikes and jump into our next adventure with gravel bikes.

From Rupit…our ride will be mostly descending and on very smooth dirt roads…the perfect playground to test gravel bikes. And it goes all the way to Girona…straight into its old district…its cathedral. You will love this ride.

Day 7

And …let’s do something unique…now that we are on the second day of gravel riding let’s go back to the classic Els Angels. Our introduction climb…the climb millions of people have done…but very few know about the gravel versions. But this ride doesn’t finish at Els Angels, we continue on a perfect dirt road that connects Els Angels with the climb to Santa Pellaia! A unique experience to conquer these two amazing classics, Els Angels & Santa Pellaia, by gravel.
