Signature Cycles’ business model is guided by a commitment to sustainability, but sustainability is just a word. Without choices and actions, it’s a buzzword without the desired result. Companies like Chris King help us put our values into action.

Chris King was the first certified B-corporation in the cycling industry. B-corps are required to meet stringent requirements and submit to annual auditing. B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. In order to achieve certification, a company must:

• Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.

• Make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.

• Exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.

At Signature Cycles, we believe in buying once and buying right. Chris King’s products are made in the right way, with the highest quality materials, and come with lifetime warranties. They are The gold standard for manufacturing quality, minimal carbon footprint, and longterm durability.

Their headsets, bottom brackets, hubs and wheelsets also set a high bar for performance, so they are not compromising the ride experience to achieve their environmental goals.

As a prime example, Chris King has recently introduced carbon fiber wheelsets to their line. Carbon fiber has a notoriously energy and waste intensive manufacturing process. King invested in rims made from Fusion FiberTM, a new type of carbon fiber that does not employ toxic resins to bind the sheets of carbon. The curing process per rim is reduced from 45 minutes to 3 minutes. And best of all, if the rim breaks for any reason, it can be returned to King to be recycled, not consigned to a landfill.

For years, Signature Cycles has been sending new, custom bikes out the door with Chris King headsets and bottom brackets. We believe they set a standard that matches our commitment to the environment. It’s that shared set of values that helps us feel good about the bikes we fit, design and build for our clients.
