GARY'S BASTION SUPERLEGGERA

This week we’re featuring a truly gorgeous, opulent Bastion Superleggera, built for Gary.

Bastion should be a bike builder that needs no introduction to anyone aware of Signature, and the partnership we have with this Australian manufacturer. Simply, they make some of the most beautiful, detailed, and elegant bikes on the market, bikes with the performance of a supercar and the luxury of a Cartier wristwatch.

Their unique manufacturing process combines 3D printed titanium lugs with carbon tubes, with the carbon not just made in house, but made with machines created by Bastion themselves. They’re truly unique, and in a category of their own in the cycling industry. Having such control over every element of manufacturing allows for these bikes to be created with geometry custom to each rider, as well as a level of personalization unique to this brand.

A supremely experienced and great rider, Gary was looking for the ultimate road bike, one that would make him feel fast in the hills, maximise his power on flat roads and very stable flying downhill, all whilst looking stunning. The Bastion Superleggera is that and more.

He had a very strong look in mind when specifying his bike. The sumptuous final product combines highly polished rose gold lugs with deep burgundy coloured carbon, finished with oxblood leather in the saddle and bar tape. As is expected from Bastion the carbon is visible, with their iconic graphic cross-hatch pattern in the weave of the fibres.

Proudly handmade in Australia, Gary wanted to keep the Australian theme throughout the bike, opting for light, balanced Partington MKII wheels, and leather details provided by Melbourne’s own Busyman Bicycles.

Whilst the bike’s soul is firmly Australian, the bike’s technical components are European, with a Campagnolo Super Record wireless groupset managing the drivetrain, and Continental Grand Prix tires keeping the bike on the road.

As mentioned above, it’s the personalisation Bastion offer that sets them apart, and this bike is no different. Gary’s name is seen on the bike printed into the titanium of the chin stays, as well as a refined script carrying his name on the top tube. The top tube also features a custom portrait of Gary’s beloved dog just below the handlebars, to keep him company on long rides away from home.

All of these details speak to a core principle of Bastion, of a brand that wants to build the best possible bikes for their owners, that they will keep for a lifetime. Not just beautiful, they’re durable, and aren’t to be hidden away and never ridden.

We couldn’t have been more excited to deliver this bike to Gary in time for Christmas. He’s now down in Florida for the winter, enjoying his new bike to the fullest on rides around Orlando.
