This week’s bike of the week is Phil’s limited edition BMC Speedmachine bike, which was not only custom-built for Phil but came with some exclusive perks that really made building this bike a one-of-a-kind experience.

This isn’t Phil’s first time building a bike with us – he trusted us with the build of his first titanium bike last year, resulting in a stunning Passoni Titanio Disco bike, which Phil loves to ride. But he also races in Ironman events and was on the market for updating his Cervelo P5X TT bike, which he trains for such events, for something lighter, more stable, and better handling.

After discussing the new BMC Project 00 and the Speedmachine with Phil, it was evident that this bike would be a perfect match. Besides optimising the aerodynamics of the frame, Red Bull Advanced Technologies’ – whom BMC collaborated with – were very influential in optimising the stability and handling of the bike – everything Phil was looking for in his next bike, both lighter and more stable in windier conditions than his current TT bike.

The Speedmachine is a new model that the Swiss manufacturer BMC developed with the help of Red Bull Advanced Technologies to create the fastest-ever bike on the market, as reported by Rouleur. And this specific model was the main reason we decided to partner with the brand. We believe and appreciate the benefits that can come from a partnership between a bike band and the car industry, especially from a powerhouse like Red Bull.

BMC and Red Bull Advanced Technologies worked with BMC ambassador and four-time individual time trial world champion Fabian Cancellara throughout the development process, where he offered the brand clear feedback on the bike through real-world testing. He commented on the collaboration to bring this revolutionary bike to life: “Two worlds from different sports have come together to create something cycling has never seen before. It has been fascinating to be involved in this project from its early stages, to continually test the athlete and machine interface. The finished prototype is incredible."

Once we had optimised Phil’s TT position, we confirmed the frame size, and as luck would have it, the Speedmachine 00 we had in stock would fit him perfectly. This bike, one of 50 bikes across the world, is not only a top-of-the-range, high-performance bike but also opened the doors to several unique perks that few get to experience, including a private BMC concierge, access to wind tunnel testing and velodrome in Switzerland, as well as direct access to races taking place all over the world.

But one of the main perks of this frame is the motion sensor location on the bike’s top tube, designed by Vorn Sports, another Swiss brand focused on the development of wearable monitoring for performance. In this case, Vorn Sports developed a sensor that tracks the position of the rider, providing real-time data and ensuring its riders, such as Phil, are riding in their most optimal position.

Overall, we are extremely happy to be able to deliver one of these limited-edition bikes to a client like Phil. We are confident that he is going to make the most out of Project 00, and we can’t wait to hear more about his experience with BMC.
