This week, we’re taking a look at this stealthy Colnago C68 Disc, built for Yared.

Yared is a close client of ours, a returning customer from NYC. As well as building bikes for him, we’ve worked on updating previous projects, from aesthetic changes like a custom paint job for his Guru Proton, to technological advances, installing a SRAM AXs wireless groupset onto another of his bikes. As much as we love to bring new bikes into the world, maintenance and updates are crucial to staying on top of your game. This time though, a brand new road machine was needed.

After a few seasons on the New York bike scene, Yared was looking for a capable road bike with disc brakes. We’d spoken many times about the benefits of a hydraulic brake system, as well as wider rims and tubeless technology. Yared was also looking for an Italian made frame; and what manufacturer is more Italian than Colnago.

After considering a wide range of options, we couldn’t escape the craftsmanship and clean, stealthy look of the C68. The way that Colnago combine matte black with gloss white in this frame is some of the best in the business, creating a sharp, minimal look that works to accentuate the bright color of the Italian flag on the seat tube.

Whilst we have fitted Yared before, we conducted another brief fitting session in order to get the most accurate information, and confirm that the C68’s geometry would work for Yared’s dimensions and riding position. All we needed was a 90mm stem and 35mm of spacers under the bars, and the bike would fit like a glove.

The aim of the build kit was to refine and optimize his riding experience. With the new Shimano R9270 we bring 40% more speed to shifting than Shimano’s previous generation, and since Yared’s last bike was a rim brake, the switch to disc brakes will aid his performance and confidence on the bike. Better shifting and braking is always a combination that considerably impacts speed and stability on the bike.

When it comes to wheels, as Yared already has a set of Lightweight Carbon Meilenstein wheels, he wanted to test something new, a wheelset that would be more optimized for wider tires and tubeless technology. The MKII from partington.cc was a perfect match. An excellent, independent Australian brand, partington.cc’s unique manufacturing processes ooze craftsmanship and innovation, and are all entirely built by hand. The MKII’s one-piece carbon construction and frame-matching matte finish were perfect for this build.

We’re extremely proud of this elegant, refined bike; its stealthy look belies it’s high performance, and for those versed in Italian cycling history, it represents the latest evolution for an important, historic brand.

But more so than this, it was a pleasure to work closely with a long-standing client, and continue to help them fulfil their cycling dreams.
