The bike of the week this week is sharp, candy-cane red BMC Teammachine SLR, built for Kris.

A Greenwich local who’s been a regular at our Saturday Rideouts this year, when he found his fitness level surpassing the capabilities of his current bike, he knew exactly where to go.

Kris was looking for a solid, high performance all rounder, that he could use for causal rides, as well as for bike racing. The ultimate modern road bike from the coveted Swiss manufacturer, the Teammachine has exceptional versatility and performance in almost all areas of road cycling, living up to BMC’s original mission statement of being the ‘Porsche of race bikes.’ After discussions with Kris, we knew it would be the right choice for him.

Thanks to Kris’ fitness and flexibility, he’s the perfect candidate for a stock bike with aggressive race geometry. After conducting a full fitting session, we knew from his anthropometrics that a Teammachine SLR 01 ONE in size 54 would be perfect for him, as long as it was set up properly.

The Teammachine is the race bike of choice for the Tudor Pro Cycling Team and AG2R Citroen Team for good reason. Designed to hit all of BMC’s targets for weight, stiffness, compliance and aerodynamics, this bike perfectly balances the aerodynamic focus of the Timemachine and Speedmachine bikes with the comfort and endurance of the Roadmachine. If you were to only own one road bike, for both casual and racing use, this is it.

Kris’ bike is equipped with 35mm deep CRD-351 carbon tubeless rims, offering a great balance of aerodynamic performance and low weight for charging up the hills. Capable of clearing a 30mm road tire, this wheelset allows for comfort on all roads, as well as some light off-roading. A truly confidence inspiring bike, with the right set-up, this could be a real go-anywhere-do-anything bike.

The handling is superb at any speed, and especially stable at high speeds. The relatively slack 72.3 degree head tube angle paired with a short 43mm of fork rake yields ~63mm of trail with a 25mm tire. This allows for laser-like accuracy when flying downhill and also feels just right when climbing out of the saddle or sprinting.

Finished in a strong, candy red, contrasting with the oversized silver downtube logo, this is a simple and striking bike, that hopefully won’t stay this clean for long.

Since receiving his bike, he’s logged many miles in the saddle, and we hope to see the bike at many Saturday Rideouts in the new year!
